Dark matter, a mysterious component of the universe, defies interaction with both light and conventional matter made of atoms. Representing the majority of the universe's mass, it remains enigmatic, yet new research proposes an intriguing possibility: dark matter might manifest as a mirror image of our own, albeit with its own set of unconventional rules.
This elusive substance, despite its abundance—comprising roughly 5 kilograms for every 1 kilogram of conventional matter—eludes direct detection. Scientists can only infer its presence through its subtle gravitational effects on celestial bodies, such as the orbital motions of stars within galaxies.
The research team, led by theoretical physicist Manuel Buen-Abad, postulates in their study that this mirrored nature of dark matter could potentially offer insight into the universe's perplexing balance between dark and ordinary matter.
